Fortschritt was an East German brand of tractors, combine harvesters and other agricultural machines made by VEB Fortschritt (part of the IFA) in Neustadt, Saxony. In 1999, Case IH merged with New Holland Ag to form a new parent company, CNH Global. The majority owner of CNH Global is Fiat Industrial. Yes, for the most part you can buy the same tractor with different paint and hoods. There are a few brand specific models still but they are both owned by Fiat and ran under the CNH name (Case New Holland). LS Tractors is an engineering company. New Holland are good tractors I think they're as good as John Deere better value for money in them and with the in house fpt engines they are better engines than Deere's, pull harder very good on pto work and often cheaper to run.
John Deere's are more expensive than Case IH generally. That is not to say that you can't find a cheaper John Deere or Case IH. You just have to shop around. Sometimes the best used farm equipment is online, and you don't need to go to a dealer at all.
