Steps to Repainting the Outside of a Truck Remove all of the door handles, trim, emblems and chrome from the truck. Sand the existing paint down on the truck. Use a soft rubber block to wet-sand over the dried primer. Use a 16-inch file board to sand the filler on all flat panels on the truck. Apply a coat of epoxy primer or lacquer to prime the sanded truck. Cost to Paint a Truck Professionally You can expect to pay between $500 and $1, 000 for most basic services. Standard Service – This often includes sanding and removing any rust before beginning the paint job. You can expect to pay anywhere from $1, 000 to $4, 000 depending on how much work needs to be done. Painting a large truck or vehicle would take a professional about six to seven quarts of paint. If you are inexperienced, two or three coats of paint on a car would require about two gallons. If you are painting your vehicle the same color, 2 gallons should work. A mid-level paint job with a higher-quality paint and additional prep work like removing rust and dents can range from $1, 000 to $3, 500 with an average of $1, 316. For a high-quality paint job drivers reported spending between $2, 400 and $7, 500, with an average price of about $5, 000. Here is one of the other reasons Maaco is cheap. Their paint quality is not as good. The materials they use are at a lower price point that what you would get in a high end shop. Now, an expensive shop can use cheaper paints (some times w/o telling you).

An inexpensive paint job is usually cheaper than a car wrap. A higher-quality paint job with multiple coats will cost about the same as a car wrap. If you want a matte finish or a color-shifting paint, painting your car would cost significantly more than wrapping it to achieve the same look.

Relative to the price, yes Maaco is worth it but that isn't saying much. A proper paint job costs around $4000 bucks for a compact car. This includes all the proper prep work. I'm sure Maaco could do a great job if you paid them enough.

A paint job won't fix it. Some major metal surgery could—but this car just isn't worth it. If you just want to change the color, or put a higher-quality paint job on it than the one it has now, that's fine.

Having your car professionally repainted can be very expensive. However, a fresh paint job or even simple maintenance to cover and prevent rust doesn't have to be delegated to the nearest auto body shop. Repainting your own vehicle can sound like a daunting task but is one that lies well within your grasp.

2) Don't go for a wash immediately. Fresh paint requires proper curing and you shouldn't soap a car down until after 30 days have passed.

Maaco offers three basic quality levels of paint service. They will not quote a price VIA e-mail or over the phone - only in person after seeing the car. The prices can run from $300 to $1500 or more, depending on the quality, amount of prep and type of paint.

If the existing finish is still relatively new and in good shape, and you just want to change the color or put something like a pearl coat over it (as we show later), then sanding down the existing paint and recovering it should be fine. If so, it can be painted over like the rest of the car.

Having worked at a Maaco for 7 years while going to college, I can say that if you expect a paint job to last 10 years while spending $250, you're crazy. However, if you do like the OP did and do all the prep work yourself, sanding all of the cracks and crevices, you'll get a decent job for the price.

You can typically count on spending anywhere between $1, 500 and $5, 000 depending on factors such as whether it's a partial wrap or a full wrap, whether your truck has complex contours or simple, and depending on the materials used. The most important factors in cost are the quality of the installer and the materials.
